The State Education Minister has said that although West Bengal has been given permission to open colleges and universities in Kolkata, it is not possible at present and the exams will be conducted online. The government has given permission to open schools in Kolkata from the 12th. But the vice-chancellors of the colleges held discussions with the state education minister as they were not allowed to open colleges and universities.
At the meeting, vice-chancellors demanded that the State Government allow universities and colleges to conduct online classes and conduct odd semester exams online in March. They also sought permission to conduct online classes as there is only one month left for the odd semester exam. Also, the universities have stated that they will not be able to open the hostel immediately due to the epidemic.
It was also announced at the meeting that the laboratories would be refined and opened for the use of PhD students. Announcements regarding the reopening of schools from February 12 for classes 9 to 12 will be made in due course. State Education Minister Chatterjee said the announcement would include important information such as all the safety rules to be followed in schools, all notices required by schools and the amount of number of students allowed in a classroom at a time.
