American Indian-origin Naureen Hassan received VP and COO from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York: Indian American Naureen Hassan was named the first Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. “Naureen’s leadership background, deep commitment to fostering diverse teams, and extensive technology and financial experience will be critical to her role as Bank Leader,” said John C Williams, President and CEO of the New York Fed. Hassan, a 25-year veteran of the financial services industry, has worked in a variety of capacities with expertise in strategy, digital transformation and cyber security. The appointment was approved by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, effective 15 March.
Most recently, Hassan, whose parents are immigrants from Kerala, was Morgan Stanley’s chief digital wealth manager and a member of the wealth management committee of the investment bank. Previously, she was Executive Vice President, Investor Services, Segments and Platforms at the Charles Schwab Corporation. She holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Denise Scott, Executive Vice President of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the New York Fed, said Hassan’s leadership experience and operational expertise are “fullly aligned” with what the search committee and he envisaged for this role.
Referring to Mohan’s achievement, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, and White House Speech Team Director Vinay Reddy, Biden said that Indian Americans are “taking over the country.” “This is an incredible honour. And it’s awesome. Indian(s)-of descent-Americans are taking over the land. You, my Vice President, Vinay, my Speechwriter. I’m telling you what,” he said.
