The 69th Senior National Volleyball Championship Gets Underway, In Bhubaneswar:   6 March, Bhubaneswar (Odisha) — The 69th Senior National Volleyball Championship has begun at the Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium in the KIIT Deemed to be University here, with players from the union territory of Ladakh competing for the first time. The tournament, which began on Friday and will end on March 11, is expected to attract over 1200 volleyball teams, both men and women.

“Our team is involved for the first time,” said Rigzin Lhamo, Ladakh’s women captain. Previously, we were selected for the Jammu and Kashmir squad, where Jammu and Kashmir players were given priority and Ladakh was overlooked. This time we have the chance to speak for ourselves.

For the first time since Ladakh was declared a union territory, both the men’s and women’s teams participated in the tournament, according to Mohammad Javed, captain of the Ladakh men’s team. “Earlier we used to play with Jammu and Kashmir, so we couldn’t get enough chances. For the first time after Ladakh was declared a union territory, both the 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams have participate.

Shri. G.E. Sridharan, Dronacharya Awardee, Arjuna Awardee & Current Coach of Indian Volleyball Team; Dr. Dalel Singh, Arjuna Awardee; and Shri Jagir Singh Randhawa make up the selection committee for the Indian Volleyball Men’s Team. Shri Ajay Jangra of SAI, Shri Daljeet Singh, and Ms. Vaishali Phadtare, the current coach of the Indian Volleyball Team, make up the selection committee for the Indian Volleyball Women’s Team. Both selection committees will be coordinated by Shri Prakash Roy and Shri A. Ramana Rao, Dronacharya Awardee and Arjuna Awardee, respectively.
